Quote of the day – Accept both compliments and criticism

Happy Hump day you beautiful people! I hope that you all have had a productive week so far and that you’re looking forward to a great weekend! I have to say, this time of the year I’m always on a natural high. I’m getting closer to my full circle around the sun, also known as my birthday! Yes, I’m that person that loves to celebrate the entire month of her birthday and however long people will allow me to celebrate! But this post is not about me and my birthday coming up! 🙂 This is about how both compliments and criticism can help us grow. So sit back, relax, and enjoy today’s PositiviTea!

I don’t know about you, but I love to receive compliments! They just make you feel so much better than you were feeling the five minutes before. It lets you know someone is thinking about you in a positive way and that they really appreciate who you are. It puts you in a state of feeling good possibly for the rest of the day. In some ways it’s encouraging and pushes you to keep going when you wanted to give up. But what would we learn if someone always told us how amazing we were? Sure we’d feel good,  great even. However, would we grow? Would we think we had to do any self-improvement if we thought that we were, well, perfect? I can’t say I would.

That is why I really do love this quote. It brings up the fact that we also need criticism to grow. As the quote says, “It takes both sun and rain for a flower to grow.” We need both the sweet and caring feedback people say, as much as the constructive criticism that people may toss our way. I throw in constructive because I’m not a fan of just criticizing someone for the hell of it it. In my experience that’s not helpful. Constructive criticism should come from a good place, and the person relaying that info should want to see you do better, not tear you down. You need a little blunt feedback from people that know you have more in you, to become the successful person you want to be.

So as I always end my post, I want to challenge you. I challenge you to not only listen and apply the compliments you get, also listen and apply the constructive criticism that people give you. See how you can use that to grow and be better. Let me know how it goes! Have a great rest of the week and don’t forget to spread some PositiviTea!
